You might not have noticed, but I wanted to share what I felt was the end of an era. This month, we said goodbye to the LEGO Monthly Mini Builds. LEGO has decided to end the program. [Insert sad face here.]
Our family weren’t the only ones to feel the passing. As I used to mention, registration for these events always opened up on the 15th of the month prior the event. While I set an alert on my calendar to sign up, I completely forgot until the following morning. So at 9am on the 16th of February, I went to the sign up website, just to discover that ALL of the available spots at our local LEGO store were already booked. So I placed The Little Brick on the waitlist. We’ve NEVER been on the waitlist, so I wasn’t expecting a hail mary.
Fortunately, the morning of, we received an email from our local store, letting us know to come on in at our convenience to build the last and final mini build. I was so excited, I gave Mr. Family Brick a call and told him to meet me with Little Brick in tow at the store around 5pm.
Sadly, it was all very anti-climactic. Business, business. Numbers, numbers. I don’t know why I was expecting so much more from the event but everything was just as usual… check in, get directed to a spot, finish the build, bag it up.
This is the way the LEGO Monthly Mini Build program ended. Not with a bang but with a whimper.
C’est la vie.
Enough about my disappointment, though! You’re here to see the build, right? It’s an awfully cute one, at that. Take a look at the mini viking ship below!
We also received a post card signed by all the store employees, which was a nice touch.

When is the next LEGO Monthly Mini Build Registration
As I said earlier, there won’t be any LEGO Monthly Mini Builds in their current format for the near future. I’m sure there will still be plenty of other events, like LEGO VIP holiday builds and LEGO Minifigure trading nights, but what will replace this is yet to be seen.
We blog about and send updates via email when we have breaking LEGO news. I’ll make sure to let you know as soon as I find out what to expect in the future. Subscribe to our email list below to stay tuned:

Never lived close enough to a store to be able to do this, always wished we could in the future. :(
Oh that’s such a bummer. :(
It was a really popular program. I hope they re-think bring it back in the future… with maybe some improvements!
They still have minibuilds released on their website. I thought they were ending it too, but they are still there!
Thanks! I’ll have to check that out!
